I left this top photo at 100% image size because this dragonfly's eyes look so cool. If you click on the photo it will go full size, or so I thought. After I posted this I tried clicking on it but it was only about 50% of the true size and It is still hard to see all the detail in the eyes, so I cropped this photo around the eyes and posted it below. So click on that one as well to see the detail. I think that blogspot resized the full size photo above at 1600 x 1000 which is less than half the actual size.
I usually resize all the photos I post on this blog at 25% so that I don't run out of space.
Click on this photo to go full size. If your browser resizes it to fit inside the window roll over the image with your mouse so that the curser turns into a little magnifying glass with a plus sign in it, and click on the image again.
This is the first time I have photographed dragonflies. I was surprised at how close they would let me get to them. I would not make a good sports photographer because I take my time setting up the shot instead of being able to shoot quickly (something I am working on). So I am glad that these dragonflies would just sit for a while, let me get close and pose for me while I took their photo.
Sorry if these bugs creep you out, I just found them so fascinating, plus they eat mosquitoes.
I used the 70-300mm lens at the 300mm macro setting. I was so excited at being able to photograph these that I went back three separate times over two days.
Wow! These are awesome Jake! The detail is amazing.
