I didn't know until I took some pictures of this horses eyes while she was looking in the sun that their iris are a horizontal slit. You can't see the horizontal iris in this picture, but I thought their eyes were similar to a humans with a round iris. I guess this gives them the ability to see nearly 360 degrees, with some blind spots directly in front and behind.
