Moonrise over Seattle

We went to the North West this past August and while there stopped in Seattle. I was fortunate enough to get set up before the sun went completely down. Shot for about an hour until it was dark and then left. Not 15 minutes later I saw the moon rising. It was an amazing dark orange moon that filled the sky. I couldn't believe it. I was in the perfect spot to see this majestic moon rise over Seattle and I missed it by a few minutes. I was quite irritated. I wouldn't have been able to make it back in time to get the photo that I wanted and I am sure I would have gotten some severe complaints from the family who had already waited patiently for me to finish shooting the first time. So the next evening I got some shots of the Moon. Now, you can believe what you choose, but I may or may not have added that moon to this photo. I may or may not have put it right in the place where I thought it would look the best and I may or may not have increased the size of the moon by 5% to make it look like a super moon. We may or may not ever know the truth as to whether this was Photoshopped.

Super Moon

This is as close as I can get. I used a 2X adapter on my 70-200 lens, so this is at 400mm. Budget answer to a real 400mm lens. Shot this as the moon was setting over the Oquirrh Mountains. The towers look all wavy from so far away. According to Google Maps I was approximately 8 Miles away as the crow flies.

Shot this on a recent trip to Oregon.

Shiromi

This took a long time to render because of the glass on her head. I got tired of waiting for it to finish, so I took it into PS and "rendered" it by hand (if that is even possible).

I'm getting close to photo realism.

Catwoman

This is my favorite 3D image that I have done so far. This took longer to put together than it did to render, which is surprising considering all the models that are in the scene. I thought this would take over 40 hrs to render based on simpler scenes that I have done that took about that long, but this finished rendering in a little under 20 hrs.

I got this shot right before the cops kicked us out.

SF from Coit Tower

Avantador

This took 40 hours to render using 4 computers networked together. I am using a Physics Based Render called LuxRender so it takes a lot longer than other renders, but the results are much better.
Here is a short video on what rendering is if you are interested:

Kabuki

This was fairly difficult to do. Getting the lights to work the way I wanted and the textures to display correctly took a while to get right. Rendering this took over 30 hrs with 3 computers network rendering. In the end it turned out how I saw it in my head when I began.

Been playing around with some 3D.

Provo River in the Uintah Mountains.

Shot this the other day on the way up to scout camp. It was overcast, so I was able to use a slower shutter speed.

Victoria 6

I've been interested in 3D for as long as I can remember, but only recently have I been able to recreate the closeness to reality that I was looking for. I'm sure in a few years this will look poor compared to what will be around. Possibly, it will be indistinguishable from reality.
This took about 15 hours to render.

Dead Corn

Macro Weeds

I got a new camera for Christmas. I know it's not Christmas yet, but it's also my birthday present. I bought the Canon 7D Mark II. Wow is it awesome. It is much easier taking macro shots with this camera. I put it in live view, tell it where to focus and it will keep tracking that focus point. It is especially helpful when the plant is moving. Even with the slightest breeze at this close up, things tend to move around. The closer I am, the more exaggerated it becomes. Some of these are handheld shots. I had to crank the ISO to a 1000 in order to get a fast enough shutter speed, and yet they are still clean shots.

Moonrise

Talk about being in the right spot at the right time. I was taking shots of a bicycle, turned around and saw the moon rising. If I had have turned around a few min earlier, I could have gotten the moon just as it was rising. But I like this as it is, the birds really compliment the whole thing.

Canyon Station

I had to redo this a couple of times because it was difficult to get all the pieces to look like they were part of the same photo. If I stare at it for any length of time I start to see all the flaws. For me to know that the photo is finished is to go away for a bit, then come back and look at it for just an instant. If I don't see anything that sticks out in that instance I know it is good enough. If in that instance something is still bugging me, or is standing out then I know I have more work to do.

Bullied no More

One could assume by the title of this photo that the girl in the swing was being bullied and she took care of the bullies, but the opposite is the case. The dead ones will be bullied no more.

Most of my Halloween photos that I have created in the past have always had a touch of humor in them, but I wanted to try and create something that was really dark and disturbing, but not use cliches of dark and scary places. I wanted to make something that was scary even though it was out in the sunshine.
I have satisfied that urge and will probably go back to the humorous, not so dark composites in the future.

Halloween

My Halloween pix this year have a very dark theme.
